Izamal

Izamal or the Yellow City is about an 1 1/2 hour drive from Chelem. The San Antonio de Padma Convent is at the center of town. You will also find a Mayan ruin and a local artisan center here. Locals offer horse drawn carriage rides around the city, but its also easily walkable. We stayed at the lovely Macan Ché when we visited.
